01-01-02 Hey! Hey! I'm back, anybody miss me?

01-05-02 Yo, you know Sailor Uranus, the butch one from that Sailor Moon show?  Well, she sent me an email yestertoday!  She wrote:

on 1/4/02 1:08 PM, Haruka Tenoh at haruka_sailor_uranus77@yahoo.com wrote:

Hello,
A friend showed me your online comic.  I have to admit the drawing style is very good but Why did you gay bash?  The holiday one #47 You clearly made it known that gays and lesbians are not wanted.  Even if that is your views please dont make it like a statement like that.  As such I regret that myself and everyone I know who was reading,or was getting to like your comic have offically made it baned and are fully against it.  If you cannot accept people for the way they are born and give respect then you in turn do not deserve any from us.

Haruka

And here's my verbose reply:

Hey Haruka, thanks for writing in.

Let me assure you that the comic mentioned is meant in good spirit and meant to poke fun AT the repressive social attitude against gays.

I write "Kung Fool!" as a humor strip that references the recent popularity of Asian pop culture in North America in general and Anime and Honk Kong action moves in particular.  Mi Sung (the fan girl) and Cavin (the yaoi bishonen) referring the former and May and Chen the latter.  And I do try to write jokes and situations that reflect a wider experience of life then just simple punchline gags.  I believe this may be at the source of our misunderstanding.

Explaining a joke is the surest way of killing it, but it's better the being perceived a hatemonger so...

Now sketch #047.  The sketches in general function as absurd non sequitor fillers or non-colored extension of the main story line.  As a gag filler, #47 parody's the topical custom of New Year's resolutions for the coming year.  As any familiar reader would see, they are meant as jokes that play upon the known personalities of the four characters.  Cavin will not get AIDS (and so forth), any more then I'll kill off or change the sex of the others.  AIDS and Christianity were chosen for their relevance and points of contention among the gay culture.  And much like the image of Mi Sung being crushed underneath boxes of doujinshi, it is meant to provoke a humorous response to an absurd situation.  The inherent humor, I admit is a bleak one and it plays upon the knowledge that the majority of people just want "the whole gay thing" to go away.  It may be considered crass and unfunny, but I must reject the claim of "gay-bashing."  As can be shown by the archives, Cavin, though a supporting character, is drawn as a human being.  He is neither a poster boy advocating gay rights nor a crude running gag for "fag" jokes.  He is himself, nothing less, nothing more.

And though I do not condemn nor promote homosexuality, I object to your line,"Even if that is your views please dont make it like [sic] a statement like that."  Had I been a raging homophobe, I would certainly be within my right to make any claim I wish in my own comic in my own webspace.  Aside from numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes (English, I admit, being a hard language to learn for a foreigner, Haruka), you make the additional mistake of assuming others MUST share your views.  It is the same error the Christians make in their intolerance of gays.

I do understand people do become much more sensitive when their own groups are at the butt of the jokes. I, myself, laugh heartily at Pollack jokes that would offend me had they been about Koreans.  But the comic in question do not reflect any particular bias on my part and if the comic must be "baned," then so be it.

Ciao.

Really, half the fun of webcomics are the emails.  Really.  Really...
But people, I don't care when you write in to say hi and what not, but if you want to address an issue serously, you might want to check the grammer and spelling.  Am I being a prick about it?  I mean, I can't spell for shit, so I check it.  Let us all hope she's speaks ESL or was at least in a great hurry...

(See, I can write as much as Piro!)

01-09-02 So I was, like, really bummed out 'cause I couldn't update for Monday and Tuesday, right?   Then I get this e-mail (among others) form this Marine telling me how he enjoys the comic after a hard day's work and how he looks forward to it EVERYDAY, right?  And I'm like, "Dude you've let everyone down, man!"  So I imagine Hullbreach (his handle) coming back to base after a hard day's work looking for Bin Laden and becoming so bitterly disappointed at another day with out Kung Fool, he spends the next day in a daze and.. LOOK OUT!  Snipers! Two o'clock!!  Ahhh!! BKAM!  BKAM!  And he curses me with his dying breath," Why? Why couldn't you... upda... da... "  And Dies!

Ah, the exquisite guilt, the delicious remorse!  Damn it, people, why can't you understand I'm a cold-hearted prick who doesn't care!  It's all a facade! I don't give a shit, I just want the money, the mulah, the bread, the cabbage, Da Benjamins, ya'll.  Just leave the money and go, OK?  Cash, then get out!  Bastards...  If I let this go on, pretty soon I be just like the other saps, constantly apologizing for this and that, griping about th emeaning of life and moaning about their cat Mitsy dying and shit...  It must stop, NO!!!!!!!

Oh, here's Hullbreach (second from the right) getting blitzed in a Spanish bar...  Our boys!  Our boys!  Rally 'round the flag, boys!  Semper Fi!  Do or Die!  Wo-hah!

My friend from high school, Frank, he joined the Marines.  Skinny white dude, use to eat lunch with our crew, he was really in to Robotech.  I mean, he actually bought the whole series of paperbacks based on the show (this was in '92, before tapes and what not). Made me draw customized versions of SDF-1 he designed in his spare time.  Yeah, that and this girl he stalked all throughout senior year... Heh heh... he was a pretty funky dude...

An interview with the real Sailor Uranus, AKA, Haruka Tenoh.  The voice actor, that is...  She's also did Shinji form EVA.  You know she actually choked the voice actor who played Asuka in the EVA movie?

Pirate King. Hey, the best FLCL site I've seen yet!

01-22-02 Hidy-ho, neighbor!

So on last last Thursday, I was getting all pissy about having to update yet another substandard sketch when the modem went kaput.  I realized that the gods have spoken and went back to work on my non-kungfool stuff that's been keeping me busy these last few weeks.  The modem has a history of going off for hours somewhat randomly and I was use to it blitzing out for a day or two.
Then days later I realized why it went off.  The bill wasn't paid, I got disconnected!  Heh, heh...
So it took a week and a half to get it connected again. No fuss, no muss.

Though I'll have to say I don't think I missed it too much... Ah but alas my poor site!  Weeks without an update!  Gone are those impressive 30,000 hits a day!  Back to the beginning boys, remember anything goes wrong, we go back to the beginning...

Then this thought came up, what if I got hit by bus and died?  Who would know? This site would remain as it is, frozen in time... How could I let the people know?

The I realized, I'm dead, what do I care?

My man Hullbreach, duely impressed by his moment of fame, sends me another pic of his crew.  This time they look a lot less drunk and should inspire a bit more confidence in our military...

Wallpapers de Kung Fool.  Get your Christmas spank wall papers! It's a bit late, but I'm pretty sure the contents are of... universal interest that transcend the seasons...  And the old May crouching with sword pic's redone for color corrections and such.  If you have any requests, I'd be happy to oblige.

Elgin Cutlass Pistol Sword, see for all you FF VIII fans, a real one!

Etch-a-Sketch art. God, I don't know whether to be impressed or not...  It's kinda pathetic...

01-29-02 Uh-uh, yabbe.

Something positive. What?!  They still keep making them webcomics?!

You know what the the worse thing about drawing a webcomic?  Ya' got to do one everyday.

You know what the best thing about doing a webcomic?  If you miss today, there's always tomorrow!

:::...The Royal Tenenbaums...:::  Best fucking movie ever. Go. See. Now!   I loved this movie.  It's a comedy, but it's the type of honest humor that is both painful, touching, and hilarious at the same time.  Won't win any Oscars, this type of humor doesn't appeal to too many people, but it's just fabulous.  It's written and directed by Wes Anderson who also did Bottle Rocket and Rushmore.  Really good.

KUNG POW: Enter The Fist  Complete and utter crap.  Just though I'd mention this piece of shit just to compare what passes for "comedy" among the Muggles...  (Btw, this movie had the working title of "Kung Fool" during the shoot.)

I'd like to thank each and everyone who entered the contest.  I would like say that you are all winners in my eyes and I remain in a debt of gratitude for all your efforts.  I would say all these things, but, of course, I can't.  Nothing, not even the most gentle and tender emotions, may break throughout the hard calcified walls of my heart.  I must remain forever buried deep within my shell.  I... can... not... feel... anything...!  Arghhhhh!  The PAIN!!!

The three winners are:
Ghastly and Jason Wages for The Best and  J.Grant for The Most Fucked Up.
Winners may e-mail for the info on their prize (which shall remain unknown, lest my secret shame be discovered...)
Any complaints, appraisals, indignant remarks and other ancillary threat along with questions of artistic merit should be addresses on the forum

Patrick Brown, cartoonist. The man's a cartoonist and guess what, he has 'em on his site!  Go figure...

Zazzle.com It's sorta like Cafepress.com, but it also has posters!  The downside is you only get paid in commissions (12%) as a licensee, not a "store" owner

02-09-02 I thought this was pretty funny...

Getto Sake. Comics and Animations with that dark urban ethinic cool hip flava...  Ok, some black guys' site.

Radio Martial Arts. (BS Ronin, take note) A radio show featuring... come on now, you can guess... those guys in bathrobes jumping up and down screaming at each other...  Yes!  They interview the homeless!

02-15-02 Missed me?  I missed you! Yes I did!  Now give me a kiss.

OPi8.com.  Op-i-8, opiate, get it?  Yeah, I know...  Some great comic stuff.  Lots of horrible American junk, too.  Not as bad as superheros, but short little Twilight Zone-ish writing that impresses usually teenage boys...

The Dar-X Chronicles.  Comic, big archive, go look.  (Damn it why didn't someone tell me girls with bleached stripes were so... "hip."  May needs a hair cut...)

Reader Mail!

Jason Magus writes:
"I like the comic, but why is it always in flash even when nothing happens. I would like to dl it, like most other comics, for my own safekeeping. But i don't know what to do with flash. Ever thought of having a simple .jpg or .gif or .pnp archive?"

Ah, reader mail, you gotta love'em!  As much as I'm sure cartoonists from all over the net spend many a night secure in the knowledge that Mr. Magus is keeping their comics safe and sound in his hard drive, and leaving out the obvious issue of copyrights and so forth, he does bring up a good point:  Should I continue with the Flash image format for these sketches?  Flash, the way I use it, has the advantage of expanding to the width and length of the browser window and keeps the text sharp, a feature I feel compensates for the fuzziness of the Jpgs... Got an opinion about it?  A suggestion?  Give me a holler, I'd really appreciate it!

02-19-02 Ummmm.... uh.... ah.... huh.... well.... heh.... oh.... sure.

Dirk Tiede of Dynamanga's done an excellent and detailed tutorial on how he createsParadigm Shift.  If you ever wanted to know how I drew comics, it was basically like so.

02-18-02 Chips-a-hoy.  Thanks to all who replied about the Flash sketch format thing...  Working on the response. And if anybody has pic for the colored contest, turn 'em in. Don't care if they're late.

02-21-02 Yo.

Hey, this friend of a cousin (or something) is starting up some online store selling DVDs and what not.  Didn't give much detail, but I gather he's selling pornos.  So I ask you Internet types, how much would it cost to create a complete commerce site with merchant accounts, catalog of hundreds of titles and what not.  Any estimates?  Any recommendations?  Give me holler, as soon as possible.  He's, I'm told, in a "hurry."

(And no, he is not me.  :P )

AG - Super Erotic Anthology Comic.  And speaking up porn, it's new English hentai mag.  Think I should submit?   $30 a page isn't a lot of money... but it's better then nothing, I suppose...  Of course, $30 a page IS the usual industry rate...   God, comics suck.

Someone wanted the Macromedia Flash plug in for Linux OS?  See, now you can stay pure, away from that filthy Gates!

I would like to thank all 23 people for their good work, and in the eyes of a loving, nurturing benevolent Goddess, you're all winners.  You have each rose to the challenge of rendering, finishing an otherwise dreadful scribble that will bare the mark of my shame forever more.  You have honored this foul miscreant with your diligence, your skill and your time.  I have no words, no utterances, no mutterings, no gesticulations of any worth, of any meaning to convey my gratitude.  I can only forsake this all too pitiful soul, so that I may devote, in entirety, this well trodden fallow flesh to your merest amusements, to your barest trace of a shadow of a hint of a lingering smile.
I thank you all.

And kudos to our judges, Ms. Amanda Osmond and Mr. Eric Marc-Aurele, who have most kindly allowed me, in most excellent fashion, to partake in their generosity of time and spirit.

By unanimous choice, the two identical pair of winners are (as there were only 23 contestants, the number of winners were limited to two per judge), Andre Germain and Steven_I m_an_idiot!

Both winners may contact me for further info on obtaining their prizes (i.e. original sketches).
Please address any questions or comments both venomous and delightful, as well as well as any other ramblings on the Forum.

02-26-02 Ni hao!

There was a comic on Monday, but I couldn't upload it due to FTP trouble.  I sat there for hours repeatedly pressing my wee little Graphire pen on the tablet to no avail...

What?  No, I wasn't doing another comic, what are you talking about?  There is no "other" comic!  There only you and me, baby.  C'mon, I got no time for another comic, I'm always up to my eyeballs with work and...

What?  Betty told you I was with another comic?

No way!  She is a lying bitch, is what she is!   What?  OK, OK, I'm sorry, your friend is not a "bitch."  But she is lying!  Look, I don't why you're taking her side!

Angry?  Of course I'm angry.  It's because, 'cause my word, my loyalty, and... and, my... no OUR love has been questioned, that's why!  Yes, that's why I'm upset.  And if you don't know that, well... then there's something really wrong here baby!  Yeah, I mean that!  Of course I love you!  Te amo mucho, senorita!  Whaa...What's with the look?

The hair?  Huh?  You're holding up a blonde hair, so?  In my underwear?  Ah....  Ah... that's... uh...  What?  How the hell do I know?  NO!  Never!  It's... it's... AH!  It's must be form Bob!  We work out together!  At the gym!  Yeah, I know he's bald, but he has that mullet kind of pony tail thing happening, yes, you've seen it!  See!  The hair's from Bob and Betty must've have mistaken another cartoonist for me.  Maybe it was daMonk, that little bugger gets around, you know...

Ah, c'mon, your friend tells you she's seen me with another comic, and you find a foot long blonde lock of hair in my underwear, and look at you!  Jumping to conclusions in a second!  This isn't like you, aw, c'mon....  How could you believe them lies when your man, yes, when your MAN's here to tell you otherwise!

Say, what's with the suitcase?

Zhongwen.com  Forget that Kanji bull shit the Japs & the Gooks use, man, this here's the real shit, straight outta the Central Kingdom, ya'll!

03-05-02  Hiya kids, how are you?  Feeling OK?  Good.  Good.

I think I should start doing those top 99 or top comic site things...  really start pushing the comic.  Sell, sell, sell!  Do my patriotic duty and all...

The Foundry   Look!  It's a Lego Zaku!  That's pretty F-ing cool.

E-spud.com  So this guy reviewed a bunch of webcomics, including Kung Fool, but the kicker is, he sent me an e-mail telling me he reviewed it and wanted to plug his site!  Gotta love that.  He spelled my name wrong, but damn it, it's a very flattering review, very positive...

03-08-02 Yeah, yeah, I'll put up both Thursday and Friday's comic this afternoon. (Don't hold your breath.)

Reiko-chan's "Japanese for Anime Lovers" A fun little online course on Japanese with sound clips form old anime shows.  This is actually a great idea, they should do this with every language!

Gaijin vs. Japanese AV idols  An English explanation of an episode of a TV show called,"People of Japan! This is Strange!"

03-11-02  Boo Boo.

One Nation, Extra Cheese.  A foreigner's guide to America!

Rike's Adventures in Teaching English In South Korea   A much more interesting version my previous Korea link.  Entertaining in more ways then one...  Better anecdotes, like some accounts of pitfalls of dating Korean guys...   I can understand why Western guys would have an innate interest in Asian chics.  (Because of the cultural differences, you're essentially going back in time- like dating women from the 1940's.  " I Want a Girl Just Like The Girl That Married Dear Old Dad"  Right?)  But do you girls want guys from the 40's, curt, sullen, and possessive?   Might as well date Italians, they're a lot like Koreans...

03-22-02 So, it was like Monday and the comic was late as usual, I figured, "Fuck it, I'll color the damn thing.  Might as well..."  Then Tuesday came, "Shit, it's taking a long time!"  But then I've been taking some night classes on Wednesday, so, "Damn, no time!"  Aw, well...

See why I dropped color?  Time, time, time!

I've been also away from the computer for a bit, so the e-mail's been piling up.  No, I don't get a lot of mail, one every two days or so, and I reply to most everyone, but it's been a while... I'll try to work that out this weekend.

So if you're still here, I thank you for coming back.  I'll get the contest results done as well, now some links:

Gay League  That is SOOOOO gay.

Jesus-With You Always  I'm sure a lot of you saw this already from memepool and chuckled at it, but you know, it seems pretty cool.  He's a grandpa, lived a full decent life, and now draws pictures of Our Lord and Savior accompanying various people at work, earning their daily bread.  Sure, the kitsch factor is resoundingly high, but you know, you got's to be down with J.C.  I mean, he's probably looking over a heathen like me, awaiting patiently until the day I finally accept him in my heart.  Beautiful, isn't?

Speaking of which, Drew from The Journal Comic made some minis of his own.  If you like his work, BUY some.  He does good shit and deserves your support.

04-12-02 The do-hickie with the updating system's still not working.  This is apparently happening to a lot of comics hosted on Keenspace.  Usually things work itself out in a day or two, but...  I have been looking for other hosting servers, but as this comic doesn't generate much revenue besides the occasional tip, and since running 25 gigs of bandwidth a month will cost a fair chunk of change, I guess I'll wait a bit longer.

(Speaking of which, Cafepress junk, soon!)

There are a lot of pissed people complaining about this on the various forums, but you know, the whole Keenspot/space is run by three or four over worked cartoonists. And since the ad banners collapsed, they've been mostly trying not to lose money.  The whole thing is a rickety affair and they could use a little slack.  Not that I haven't been lax myself, of course.  But since the site won't update, I decided to wait instead of manually creating a new page for every strip and all...

But you know when Keenspace does go belly up, I'll just move servers, that's all.  I'm still here, the Internet not going anywhere, and if you decide to keep showing up, there will always be more comics from your's truly.  So let us all chill.  And gain from this experience a little taste of impermanence, the ephemeral wisps of vapor that belie our existence...  Amen.

Pornography  It's about... relationships, I think.

Cho Aniki - Bakuretsu Rantou Hen  Joyce (New Adventure of Bobbins) sent this to me.  It's suppose to be the Gayest fighting game ROM ever.  No, I don't know why she sent it to me....

The site still won't update, but I found a place to host the comic, so I'll be "moving on up!"   Don't know anything more complicated then basic html, so I'm looking for L33t individuals who can help me out with the site.  If you is or know such folk, then conatact moi.  Oh, and someone messaged me at the forum, but I keep getting logged off,  if you instant messaged me on the forum, e-mail me instead.

I'd be offended too, but I'm too busy trying to lure white girls into my opium den...
(from D. Kirk, Small Stories Online)

04-18-02
The sons of the Prophet are brave men and bold
And quite unaccustomed to fear,
But the bravest by far in the ranks of the Shah,
Was Abdul Abulbul Amir.

Now the heroes were plenty and well known to fame
In the troops that were led by the Czar,
And the bravest of these was a man by the name
Of Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

One day this bold Russian, he shouldered his gun
And donned his most truculent sneer,
Downtown he did go where he trod on the toe
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir.

Young man, quoth Abdul, has life grown so dull
That you wish to end your career?
Vile infidel, know, you have trod on the toe
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir.

So take your last look at the sunshine and brook
And send your regrets to the Czar
For by this I imply, you are going to die,
Count Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

Then this bold Mameluke drew his trusty skibouk,
Singing, "Allah! Akbar!"
And with murderous intent he ferociously went
For Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

They fought all that night neath the pale yellow moon;
The din, it was heard from afar,
And huge multitudes came, so great was the fame,
Of Abdul and Ivan Skavar.

As Abdul's long knife was extracting the life,
In fact he was shouting, "Huzzah!"
He felt himself struck by that wily Calmuck,
Count Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

The Sultan drove by in his red-breasted fly,
Expecting the victor to cheer,
But he only drew nigh to hear the last sigh,
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir.

There's a tomb rises up where the Blue Danube rolls,
And graved there in characters clear,
Is, "Stranger, when passing, oh pray for the soul
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir."

A Muscovite maiden her lone vigil keeps,
'Neath the light of the cold northern star,
And the name that she murmurs in vain as she weeps,
Is Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

I am an avid reader of web comics (they provide a surrogate for a girlfriend :( ), but I have noticed that they all follow a set pattern.  They all have their happy-crappy forums, and boring rants, and the comics fall into one of two categories (generally speaking).  Category one is the standard, tiring, strip format with its little boxes and lame gag at the end. The second the full page, or “manga” style comic.  There are exceptions of course but enough of that.
With FOP I hope to break out of the rut that web comics have dug for themselves.  On this site you will find no rants, news, or forums.  This is the only page on the site aside from the comics.  The comic itself will be a series of comic books done in Flash."

05-14-02   As can be seen from this Kung Fool! cast pic from last July, the two willies and Terry (Cav's boyfriend) were planned from the beginning. Sure took long enough...

The Ramones' cover of Spider-Man theme song  Yeah, anything sounds good by them, including What A Wonderful World.

Stalin vs. Hitler!  Forget that Superman bullshit, now this is a fucking comic!  It's Russian, with translation. (Of course, Stalin killed more people the Hitler, but well, you know... the Nazis and all... I mean, you saw Indiana Jones, they're evil!)

Digital OLYMPUS Magazine  You should go for their enlightening Photoshop tutorials, and not because they've got pictures of HOT models.  And certainly not because you can download high resolution (~800kb) pic of gorgeous girls.  (The last link on each tutorial)   No, that would be sexist and wrong.

05-15-02  Oh yeah, as about five of you who do use Mozilla browsers emailed me, the recent Flash comics just won't appear properly on it.  I don't know why, the older archives do show up fine.  If anybody knows I guess you can tell me, and in the mean time, to those MS haters out there... uh... try Opera, it works for me.  In fact all of you should use Opera, it's faster, it'll save you like 20Mb of memory on your machines and won't crash every 30 minutes...

And about twenty of you who use Internet Explorer on the MACs, the page'll appear funky and a panel'll dissapear now and then.  I thought refreshing or waiting 'til the Flash downloads completely will do the trick, but K!d Handsome has found the solution and cause to the bug:

"The problem is that the Macromedia installer for Internet Explorer doesn't
install an essential part of the player software as it should.

It's a database (called ShockwaveFlash.class) needed to interpret correctly
the code for the Macintosh. The installer doesn't place it in the Explorer
plug-in folder, but the Macromedia installer for Netscape DOES place it in
the plug-in folder of that browser and that's why Netscape render your page
correctly but Explorer doesn't.

The solution is very simple: simply make a copy of the needed but omitted
data (ShockwaveFlash.class) and put it in the Explorer Plug-in folder and
VOILÀ Explorer works great with Flash 6.

Why does the microsuck softwares need to be so much trouble... ?"

For the 90% of you on IE on Windows, long live and prosper.  And please ignore these fringe loons.

All Small.net  A mini-comic that maintains it is all small stuff.   Amazing set o' comic strips, very neat.

Gully's Aqua Tank  PC mod fish tank.  Cool blue lighting.

And Ken Ohki emailed me to tell me about his new comic The Nymph .  He claims, "There is going to be nudity. And sex.  A lot of nudity and sex."  Hmm... some how I doubt I'll care.  (And where did he get the idea I'd be interested in nymph sex?  People, if you got a new comic featuring nymph sex:  Don't send it to me.  Hell , I don't even read Elflife.)

05-18-02 FTP is out, modem is out.  Nothing works.  I've been playing "modem tag" for the last three days.  See my cable modem has these three lights that go on and off when the connections not right, and since Thursday, they've been blinking like crazy.  Charter cable says they're aware of the problem and are working on it...  But its not like before when it was just dead, it gets connected, all three lights go green, every once in a while.  But randomly!

So I'm staring at the thing for hours and... yes, all green!  Upload, upload... no!  Damn... gotta wait...  yes!  No!  Maybe!  That lasted for couple of days and I said to myself, "Self, go to sleep!"   And I did.  So here I am.

05-20-02   ***witty_remark***

Mozilla problem's been fixed, Ian Scott pointed out that the browser needed <br> tags in between the Flash .SwF files to display them correctly.  So I took the time to go back and retagged the affected strips.  Was it worth it?  ...eh, prolly not...
So all six of you can go back to using Mozilla for this wee little site!  Hurrah!

For the advanced Mac heads using OS X, Amanda Bevan highly recommends Omni Web, "I have found that the page looks wonderful (and acts as it should)"  Really, anything to avoid IE 5...

And now, some comics:

The Grimbles  Wow!  A non-anime-ish comic on Keenspace, how the fuck did that happen!  Quite good actually.

Hamlet the Manga!  Remember Shakespeare ?  Remember Slayers?  Zelgadis as the doomed prince of Denmark.  It is done quite well and very much worth the look.

Coffee to Go  Neato indy comic.  Remember kids, it's about honesty.

Yellow Kid's Skate / Surf Comics Manga Site  I think this is the first skate comic I've seen...  Weird navigation, but interesting stuff.  It's raw in a good way, no "manga" bullshit.

Chynco's Stuff  An artist portfolio site, has a bunch of stuff.  Take a look at his short, Sex & Violence, looks like a surreal tribute to Ryoichi Ikegami, the guy who drew Crying Freeman, among other books.  I can't decide whether it's actually good or just trite...

Target  Better then average well drawn manga, that warns it will contain Shounen Ai, but I doubt anybody will be able to tell the difference. Everybody's drawn in the same cutesy way...

Flip & Splog  A Tony "hijo" Moretti wrote asking me to plug his comic.  It's the usual AnimeMangaKeenGamer stuff.  For the life of me I can't tell those guys apart... Go see if you can.

05-22-02  Must... not... fall... asleep.... eh...     Zzzzzzzz...

Infinite Kung Fu!  A print comic, authentic, hip hop, retro, funk.  Best part:  Not a fucking manga!

Galaxion: Helikon Comics  It's sorta like Strangers in Paradise crossed with Star Blazers...

"The Langley Schools Music Project is a 60-voice chorus of rural school children from western Canada, untrained but captivated by melodic magic, singing tunes by the Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, The Bay City Rollers, and others. The students accompany themselves with the shimmering gamelan chimes of Orff percussion, and elemental rock trimmings arranged by their itinerant music teacher, Hans.Fenger.
These 1976-77 recordings, captured on a 2-track tape deck in a school gymnasium, weren't staged to achieve money or fame, to sell albums or land a record contract. These kids played music because they loved it. Innocent, flawed and bittersweet, guided by Fenger's unsuspecting genius, these recordings deserve to be heard and preserved."

Spanish Comics Convention Scandalized by Live Sex Performance  Those wacky Spaniards...

The Case for the Empire  " STAR WARS RETURNS today with its fifth installment, "Attack of the Clones." There will be talk of the Force and the Dark Side and the epic morality of George Lucas's series. But the truth is that from the beginning, Lucas confused the good guys with the bad. The deep lesson of Star Wars is that the Empire is good. "

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, honey,

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, baby,

Please take my hand!

The latest Color Contest  seems to be a dud this time around... Two days to go and I've received only one entry.  Ah, well.  It'll be easy to pick a winner this time.

Lost at Sea  From Oni Press Sunday Comics,  6 page full color peek at Thrilled to be Here's Brian O'Malley's upcoming comic.  Is so pretty...   The html viewer only goes up to page 4, but the rest of them are on the main Sunday Comic page.   I really dig his stuff.  It's Paul Pope meets Manga meets Alt comics, and he seems to have a thing for "fucked up alienated chick" stories...  Looks nice.

Take a look at all the new Cafepress junk we cartoonist will be hawking all though out this summer.   Everybody get ready... to ignore them!

Killer Japanese Seizure Robots!    Ouch!  My eyes!

X-Men vs. Street Fighter  Online Shockwave version of the Capcom arcade classic.

05-28-02    I saw this icon on some message board, it just made me happy.  It's sad, I know...

See my bushy brows in action!  (91kb)  Don't remember when I made this... but it's funny.

Five more entries for the Color Contest... So it's a total of 6.   If anybody wants to turn one in late, please do so.  (Yeah, I know... I'll get something tad more interesting next time...)

Urban Legends Reference Pages  Spent most of Memorial Day reading through this site, I love it.  It's got tons of good stuff.  Find out the truth behind some tall tales, including the "Three Men and a Baby" ghost, The "worst job in Singapore" bit, The Buggering Batman, "Snuff" films, The Killer in the Backseat, Santa Cross, The old "waiting an hour before swimming in case of cramps," Under the Yum-Yum Tree, and, this one's pretty good, Does the $20 dollar bill predict the Sept. 11 bombings?!

Speaking of which, this has to be one of the best photo of the Twin Towers.  Very moving.

Life with Leslie, part of the Evil Space Robot empire...

Return to Sender.  Thing get interesting! (kinda...)

Brain Hurt  Is good comics.

The Family Circus.  No not the ultra-sweet cartoon by Bil Keane, but a murderous horrific parody by Jason Shiga.

Do also check out Devil's Panties,  Glamour Lust,  Arcana,  and  Under Power.

06-03-02 Hey kids, guess what, I'm over my storage limit on the Keenspace server!  No more space for Hyung!  Time to say good bye!  Now I really have to move.  Expect the usual delays.  And to those who emailed me during the past three weeks, I 'll get to replying to them, honest.

Superman's Babysitter  Kyle Baker's banned short comic about the big "S" as an rambunctious infant.

Anti-Dog Meat Movement Headquarters  Bunch of prissy White people and uptight Koreans don't want you to have the sweet sweet joy, the tantalizing delight that is dog meat.  I wonder if Hindus protest McDonald's hamburgers this way...

On a related note, Spanish Soccer Team 'save' Korean dog.  Cuuuute puppy!

Amber Forever  You've heard of cops posing as teens to nab Internet pervs, right?  What happens when a writer does it?  Hilarious in a creepy way.  Very creepy.  In fact I shouldn't even post the link at all...

05-31-02  Aside from Bob Dylan and Woody Allen, these are my favorite Jews.

George Monbiot  Investigative journalism done right.

They've bred featherless chickens!  Ugh, gross...  I actually have a phobia about chickens.  They... scare me...

Radiomaru Brian O'Malley's site. (Lost at Sea and Thrilled to be Here guy)

Jesse Hamm Is comics too. Religious Fred be funny.

Shit the Dog It's a lot of scat jokes drawn by Simon Bisley.  From Heavy Metal.

06-10-02 Yo, what's happening, hot stuff?

We're still moving, we thank you for your patience...

The cartoon journal The cartoon journal of Tod, of Toddbot.com
You know I'll have to start one of these...

Open Letter to John Ashcroft  Quicktime audio clip from Claire Braz-Valentine to our (USA) Attorney General...

Jim Lee's Online Critique  Flash audio feature from Wildstorm comics. Jim Lee draws Superhero comics very well.  I'd also make fun of him too... but he's Korean and you know...  hey, he's good at what he does and has gotten rich from it, what can you say?

Hari-Pota Japanese Harry Potter fan site by Di GI Charat illustrator, Koge-Donbo.   Art student Maggie Bradshaw also has some nice fanart as well...

Checkerboard Nightmare  Hey, isn't this comic already famous?

Mysterious Void  Ok, this webcomic, no one knows about.

06-13-02  And on and on...

Grayheaven Magazine's comic strips.  Has some interesting stuff, some ol' standbys and what not.

Gallery of World Cup "cheerleaders".  Because it's all about the game, the game, damn it!

The Leftersons Political Statement Page  A four panel gag strip devoted to spoofing the left?  Why not, it's a free country. From Bush Country.org, "provides News the liberal media does not. We Promote the Ideals of Conservatism for the Common."

White House.org  Pretty funny send up of current residents of 1600 Penn. Ave. Like, Operation Infinite Purity - Winning the War on Masturbation.  At least it's not a porn site like whitehouse.com.  (Whitehouse.gov is the real deal, by the way.)

Why I love Performance Art

Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics  Aren't you a physics geek?  Well you'll like it anyway...  Check out their movie reviews.  (Scroll all the way down.)  Any of you rememberLaws of Anime?  Same thing...

What would Buddah do?  Apparently, he would sell T-shirts and post pics of his wife and kids...  Here's couple of my shirts, for the five or four of you who've asked.  (Just thought I'd slip that in, see if anyone noticed...)

06-23-02  See the most important part of doing an online comic is, not writing, not art, not gags, no.  It's daily updates.  Yes, you've got to update as much as possible!  You've got to make your site habitual, so they click on it everyday.  Don't you see?  Don't you see!?  DON'T YOU SEE!!?!!?

(Oh, yeah, Korea won and all.  Everybody's very happy.  As a bonus, Japan lost, so it's extra sweet.  I'm looking forward to getting our asses kicked by the Krauts on Tuesday.  Rock on.)

In A Perfect World  It's a 637kb gif animation, but it's absolutely worth the wait.  You've got to see it.  It's about 9-11, and I can't quite describe it without giving it away.  But it's good.  Just see it, OK?   (It's by 3D animator Den Beauvais.)

Lot of people liked the Harry Potter parody (KFC 149) — which was good.  If you can only update once a week, might as well make it count, ne?  I've read the books last year, despite the all the marketing BS involved with the lackluster, insipid, and downright shitty movie.  The books reminded me a lot of James and the Giant Peach and it's filled with that particular dry English wit that makes it a fun read for adults.  (And being a kid's book, you can also gobble them up within days.)  None of the humor, the zest, is to be found in the snore inducing movie, good visuals, though.

Actually, it was my brother, the uptight, no-comic reading, no cartoon-watching, serious, radical, fascistic one who actually bought a set and forced them on me.  For something so magical to penetrate his thick hide, I knew it had to be good.

Delta Thrives  One big-ass huge horizontal scrolling comic.  Lots of 3d effects, bits o' animation and color too.  And even though I usually don't care for Poser 3d models on comic, he incorporates it pretty well.  From Patrick "I just kicked your Ass" Farley's E-sheep.

Dayfree Press  Neil G's got some more Dar-X comic, he wrote to tell me. Lots of other stuff too.

Reality High  Geoff Willingham also wrote in about his comic.  He has three pages so far, it's about teen suicide, but no one dies, he said...

Pornolize  Just plug in the url of your choice, and turn any old stuffy page to fun, fun, fun!  I tried it to Megatokyo, and man, Piro's a lot more entertaining when he's got a potty mouth.

Formula 119  Jason Wage's personal (and cool) art page.  He won the first Coloring contest long these many months.  But I haven't drawn the prize sketch yet.  Oops. I've been a baaad boy...  (Actually, I'm just going down the list and he just sort of ended up at the bottom. I'm working on it...)

Good Brush.com  The art of Craig Mullins, professional matt-painter.  Conceptual illustrations and what not.  Works for dem' Big Hollywood Movie types.  Old school painter, you know, when people knew how to draw.

Trooper Clerks  Flash animation that crosses the convenience store angst of Clerks with storm troopers from Star Wars.  There's also a live action short being made to boot!

The Buddha and Hitler Show  Great concept, piss poor execution.

The Fighting Whites  Ever feel miffed when 100,000 Crackers do the Atlanta Braves' tomahawk chop?  Don't like the Cleveland Indian's logo?  Iz cool, ya'll, "everything's gonna be all white."

Kicking A Watermelon  The thrilling climax when a Kung Fu kick meets a large fruit.

Ooh... pretty rose...   Don't spin the baby!   From Photosig.

Fan Fiction.net  Fanfic directory.  I can't even begin to imagine the horrors within... brrrr..!

06-28-02    So I saw this movie called Afterlife, a Japanese movie made couple of years ago.  It's one of those artsy little films and the premise is this:  After you die, you spend a week thinking over your life and choosing one memory you'll get to keep for all eternity.  You forget everything else and only have that one moment.
I understand that such a metaphysical premise brings up a lot more questions in its wake,  but leaving that aside, which memory would you choose?

A Life Revealed  Remember the picture of an anonymous Afghan refugee girl with the piercing green eye that was on the cover of National Geographic books.  One of the mostly widely recognized images in the world.  Well, after 17 years, they found her!

Ad Busters  Culture Jammers Headquarters.  Digging beneath our collective bullshit.   See also their great spoof ads.

The Art & Science of Billboard Improvement  Online instructions on beautifying the mass media blight.  From the The Billboard Liberation Front.

::Dice Box::  Another great comic that's stuck one the web 'cause there's no print market, good stuff, really.

Max and Lily  It's like that TV show Will & Grace, but this comic's actually funny.

Brian Bolland - Gotham Knights 29 Step-by-Step  A very cool and informative tutorial on Digital Inking by comics veteranBrian Bolland

Ghostly Talk  Internet talk radio about the paranormal phenomenal by these two Michigan guys.  And by guys, I really mean guys, this show is to radio what Keenspace is to webcomics.  Hilariously informal and casual ramblings about ghost hunting and what not.  Surprisingly informative as well.

Milk Sucks!  I know, you're gonna see the PETA label and roll your eyes, but that shit you've been drinking is hardly real milk, you know.  Before W.W.II, your grandparents drank milk, what you're gulping now is a tasteless industrial dairy product, squished out of dangerously stressed cows, full of growth hormones and antibiotics. (Besides, it give me the runs, anyway...)

Happy Face Crater on Mars  Clearly, the Martians did have a sense of humor.

For all you Harry Potter fans...  Here's Sailor Snape!

Lord of the Rings on 'Banned Texts' List at Hogwarts  “ ' It’s the first time we’ve had to ban a comedy' acknowledges Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of the school."   It's a funny article, but what's more interesting is the reply message board below the text, featuring a bunch of LOTR fanboys kvetching about Harry Potter.  Reminded me of why I never read Lord of the Rings in the first place...

China Executes 64 on Anti-Drug Day  "China usually marks International Anti-Drug Day on June 26 with a wave of publicized executions, underscoring authorities' belief that harsh punishments are an effective weapon against the spread of drugs. Officials from the United Nations have said they do not condone the practice."  See, kids, if you do drugs, some Chinaman's gonna shoot your ass.

Cartoonist Tributes to Calvin and Hobbes  A collection of various cameos and send up of the uber comic, Calvin and Hobbes
